Magdalen College 1971 Chair Commission

In 1971 the Edward Barnsley Workshop undertook a commission for 52 chairs from Magdalen College, Oxford.  Magdalen is one of the constituent colleges of the University of Oxford, standing next to the River Cherwell and has within its grounds a deer park and Addison’s Walk.

Before beginning the commission the workshop was asked to keep a pictorial record of the making of these chairs and over the past month we have shown our Instagram followers the photography records from 46 years ago.

Here you can see the full set of images documenting our production, including a final images of the completed chairs in situ, and still in use, at Magdalen College.
