At the Barnsley Workshop we design and make furniture for people whose homes are all around the world. From the initial design to the finished article, every piece of Barnsley furniture is created with care and attention to detail. There is an integrity to Barnsley furniture that derives from the high level of craftsmanship that goes into every piece that leaves our workshop. Our team are always striving to enhance our designs and create outstanding results, tailored to your brief.
In addition to our bespoke furniture, we also have pieces available to purchase from our showroom next to the workshop in Hampshire. These pieces can be found in the Furniture section of the website. For over a century, the Barnsley Workshop has produced handmade furniture of outstanding quality. We are proud of the reputation and ethos established by our founder, Edward Barnsley, and continue the process of refinement and improvement that he began.
Furniture With A Story
The story starts with the tree….
In our timber seasoning sheds, we have boards that have been cut from British grown trees. The boards are of various thicknesses and sizes, slowly drying under our watchful eyes, waiting for the right moment for them to be transformed into Barnsley furniture. We are experts in selecting the ideal timber for each project. The choices made at this stage are important, because they add a harmonious quality to the final piece of furniture.
Our furniture can be found in both country and city homes. It graces Oxbridge colleges and ministerial offices of the British Government, the Palace of Westminster and Canterbury Cathedral. Our designs are so quintessentially English that we were asked to provide the oak boards for the Domesday book when it was rebound in 1986. We made them to last well into the next millennium. This sense of making for the future has always been a part of our DNA.
