Dining Table and Six Chairs, 'Hop Garden'
Further images
This is the 'Hop Garden' dining table and six chairs.
The suite was designed by James Ryan (b. 1972) and made in the Barnsley Workshop in Hampshire.
The table comfortably seats six people. The combination of an oval table-top and the carefully designed under-structure, with unobtrusive legs, allows for a flexible seating arrangement.
The starburst pattern on the table-top has been created using timber from a windfallen Walnut tree that grew in a Sussex hop garden. It was sawn into boards in 2018 and carefully seasoned in the Barnsley Workshop’s drying sheds. The chairs and the table under-structure are made using American Walnut.
The chairs are based on James Ryan’s ‘Grace’ design. He says, ‘I designed the back of this chair, with its accommodating curves, to be particularly supportive and comfortable.’ They are upholstered in leather.
The table is 150 cm long, 120 cm wide and 74 cm high.
